Since becoming your Sheriff I have continued to upgrade our records management system for the Civil and Correctional Divisions. Both Divisions have been updated with new computer software making those divisions more efficient. I have improved our web site to provide more information to the public. I worked closely with the County Board and brought our Correctional Division into compliance with the New York State Commission of Corrections Minimum Standards. I have reduced Jail operational costs and expanded services for our Criminal Division with minimal impact to our budget. I continue to work closely with our Emergency Service Organizations to combine resources and provide the best possible response to your emergencies.

I have secured funding for the following:

§         2009 Angler Patrol Boat

§         2009 Ford F-250 4WD

§         18 ‘Command Trailer

§         7000 KW Mobile generator and Light Tower

§         6 Wheel Utility off Road Vehicle

§         Night Vision equipment

§         Portable Speed trailer

§         All-Terrain Vehicles

§         Snowmobiles

 

 

Additional Accomplishments

§         Corrected outdated Standard Operating Procedures in order to improve procedures in all Divisions.

§         Created On-Line available information and downloadable forms from our Website

§         Published Annual Reports providing information to the public

§         Preparation of a Yearly Strategic Plan laying out our goals and objectives for the upcoming year

§         Critical reviews of operations, training and procedures

§         Improved hiring practices and background investigations in both divisions

§         Improved promotional procedures and interviewing

§         Improved training in both patrol and corrections

§         Instituted a Facebook Page

§         Increased the number of Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) certified Instructors

§         Increased the Number of DCJS certified Firearms Instructors

§         Possess in-house DCJS certified EVOC, Domestic Violence and Mental Health, Physical Training, Defensive Tactics Instructors

§         DCJS Reality Based Training Instructor and Equipment

§         Can self-train employees with in-service capabilities at 90%

§         Improved our evidence storage and retention procedures

§         Developed a Digital Forensics Lab

§         Trained and developed a professional Accident Investigation Team

§         Improved Video recording capabilities of interviews

§         Developed Mutual Aid Agreement with Oneonta Police Department, Cooperstown Police Department, and Delaware County Sheriff’s Office

§         Reclassified and trained staff position of Part Time Female matron to Corrections Officer

§         Cross trained all Corrections Officers to improve efficiency and professionalism

§         Appointed the first female Deputy Sheriff to ever serve in the Law Enforcement Division

  

If Re-Elected I will:

 

·         Continue to initiate programs for our Youth and Senior Citizens.

·         Continue to look for ways to reduce operational costs.

·         Continue to seek outside funding and grants to reduce costs to our taxpayers.

·         Continue to serve the residents of Otsego County and provide cost effective professional services.

·         Continue to work closely with the State Police, local Law Enforcement and Emergency Service organizations to utilize all available resources.

·         Continue to work diligently to make improvements across all divisions within the Sheriff’s Office.

·         Continue to address challenges as they arise.

 

 

I will continue to strive to make our Sheriff’s Office a pillar within our community and make Otsego County a safe place for our residents.
